Pet Proof Your House

Pet Proof Your House with This Simple Tips

The process of adopting and keeping a pet requires total commitment. But that doesn’t mean you have to put up with a messy house. Incorporating a few pet-proofing ideas would ensure you, and your pet enjoys a clean and safe environment.

Pet-Proofing For All Rooms

There are various hazardous components in every room of your house. For instance, ensure to keep all the electrical connections out of reach as pets like chewing on everything. Also, have specific storage for wires and electric appliances whenever they are not in use.

Additionally, the presence of furniture in various rooms might attract the scratching instincts of pets, more so cats. Instead, try to redirect their attention to a specific rug or rough post within social areas.
Also, ensure to store toys safely as they can quickly turn into choking hazards or even get destroyed. The same case applies to lamps and any other precious items such as jewelry.

The Bathrooms

Keep your toilet lids closed to prevent your pet from drinking unsafe water. The medicine cabinets should also remain secure at all times and bathtubs dry. It’s better if you keep the entrance door closed at all times.

The Kitchen

Ensure you have a door or gate to restrict your pet’s entrance to the kitchen. You don’t want then feasting on all types of food or worse getting injuries from sharp utensils.

Ensures they stay clear of harmful food items and detergents, ff your pet can jump over the counters. You can use child-proof latches for your cabinets. Garbage bins should also remain secure.

The Bedroom

Always close the doors to your bedroom to prevent your pet from jumping unto the bed and leaving behind some fur. If you tend to be forgetful, you can instead purchase pet-proof bed covers.

Additionally, keep a close eye on the closets as your pet might get trapped in there and close them whenever not in use. Remember to keep your shoe-collection in the closet.

The Laundry Room

All detergents should be at an out-of-reach distance or in closed cabinets. Also, make a habit of cross-checking the washing machine in case your pet accidentally falls.

Living Room

You might find that your pets spend more time in the living room than any other place in the house. Therefore, ensure all the remote control batteries are out of sight.

Also, get a cool-to-touch and spark free fireplace to prevent burn injuries. Electric fireplaces make an ideal pick.
